About

This blog is maintained by the Strategy and Development Unit of the Improvement and Development Agency. We are using it to stimulate a conversation about local government and public sector policy, focusing particularly on improvement and innovation.

This blog complements the Improvement Policy resource on the Knowledge website – www.idea.gov.uk and the IDeA Communities of Practice www.communities.idea.gov.uk and in particular the Policy and Performance Community of Practice (free registration required).

About the authors:

Ingrid Koehler is an Improvement Strategist at the IDeA.  Her work focuses on:

· improvement through better performance management and use of information, and

· knowledge-sharing, accountability and community conversations through new media.

She has done extensive work on performance management in local authorities, mainly through the Performance Management, Measurement and Information project (PMMI) run jointly with the Audit Commission, the development of the IDeAs performance management web resource and facilitating Policy and Performance, IDeA’s Community of Practice of the year. She recently led work on Customer Insight for the IDeA and LGA. Ingrid is also working with social media innovators to develop new applications for local government.

Ingrid previously worked for the Audit Commission developing several national reports, the London Borough of Brent and the Local Government Ombudsman. She has an MA in Economics and Public Finance from the University of Tennessee.
